Build vs buy · For finance leaders

The most expensive logistics platform is usually the one you build yourself

Most logistics platforms become more expensive as complexity grows.

FourPro was designed so complexity grows without infrastructure costs growing at the same rate.

The hidden cost of building

Instead of asking

“What does FourPro cost?”

Ask

“What will it cost us to build, maintain and continuously evolve this ourselves over the next decade?”

The cost of a system you build yourself usually grows like this.

  1. Year 1BuildA dashboard or integration project.
  2. Year 3CustomizationsWorkflows, reporting, partner logic.
  3. Year 5Technical DebtUpgrades, security, maintenance stack up.
  4. Year 10A Software Company Inside Your Company
Building with AI

Can’t we just build it with AI?

Prompting an AI to write software, often called vibe coding, can produce a working first version in days. That only saves money if the system is also secure, scales with your operation and can be maintained for years by people who understand the code.

Vibe coding has its place. Andrej Karpathy, who coined the term, called it “not too bad for throwaway weekend projects”, and for prototypes and small internal tools that is often true. Contrast this with AI‑assisted coding, where experienced developers use AI and stay in charge of the design and the code. AI can help build better software, but not necessarily cheaper software. With or without AI, an enterprise system needs people who have built one before.

Veracode stated in their 2026 security report that only 56% of security tests were passed by code from more than 100 AI models, even though almost all of the code compiled.

“Models may be almost syntactically perfect, but they are still failing on nearly half of all tasks where security is needed.”
Chris Wysopal, co-founder of Veracode, in the Veracode 2026 GenAI Code Security Report (opens in a new window), July 2026
“Vibe coding is fine, but only if you pay close attention to what is being built. […] That’s not software engineering. That’s gambling.”
Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon, in his AWS re:Invent keynote (opens in a new window), December 2025

The architecture advantage

Enterprise Capability.
Without Enterprise Cost.

Most software becomes more expensive as complexity grows. FourPro was built so operational complexity can grow without infrastructure costs growing at the same rate.

  • Lower TCO
  • Less ERP Customization
  • Lower Infrastructure Costs
  • Predictable Scaling Economics
  • Reduced Technical Debt
  • Faster Time To Value
Most platforms scale by adding infrastructure.
FourPro scales by adding efficiency.

The companies that win tomorrow won't be the ones that build the most software. They'll be the ones that extract the most value from the software they already own.
