In an era where supply chain efficiency is paramount, Norway's Kristiansund Base is setting new benchmarks in maritime terminal operations. Through strategic digital transformation and API integration, this forward-thinking terminal has achieved remarkable improvements in vessel turnaround times and operational efficiency.

Breaking New Ground in Terminal Operations

The game-changer? A sophisticated API-driven ecosystem that has transformed how Kristiansund Base interacts with carriers like North Sea Container Line (NCL). The system provides real-time access to vessel manifests - both incoming and outgoing - up to two weeks before vessel arrival, a dramatic improvement from the previous process of receiving manifests via email within 24 hours of arrival. Even more significantly, manifest updates are now received and processed automatically, with the system dynamically adjusting yard planning to accommodate changes. This eliminates the time-consuming manual replanning previously required when new manifests arrived without clear indication of changes.

When vessels enter the designated geofence, the system automatically dispatches yard transport orders to terminal trucks, optimizing container movements from vessel to yard.

Once all containers are positioned according to the predetermined yard plan, the system automatically generates transport orders to SR-Transport for final delivery, creating a seamless handover process that eliminates traditional communication delays.

"The shift to a data-driven terminal has transformed our operations," says Vibeke Weiseth, CEO of Kristiansund Base. "Real-time integration with carrier systems enables proactive resource allocation and predictive planning, significantly enhancing throughput capacity."

The Numbers Speak for Themselves

The impact of this digital transformation has been profound:

• Reduced vessel turnaround time by 32%

• Elimination of two out of three manual arrival processes through automation

• Substantial improvements in berth productivity and yard management

• A remarkable 62.4% reduction in administrative communication

• 1.5 hours saved per vessel in data maintenance on NCL's side

Creating a Connected Ecosystem

What makes this transformation particularly noteworthy is its approach to partner integration.

Rather than forcing partners to adopt new systems, Kristiansund Base's solution allows stakeholders to maintain their existing workflows while benefiting from enhanced connectivity. This means carriers, terminal operators, and transport providers can all operate within their native systems while maintaining full visibility of the container journey.

Kenneth Johanson, CTO at NCL, puts it succinctly: "Kristiansund Base is the most modern and innovative harbor we collaborate with. The integration has reduced our vessels' port time, improving fleet utilization and schedule reliability."The Future of

Maritime Operations

Powered by FourPro Solutions' Abiliate® platform, this digital transformation showcases how traditional maritime operations can be revolutionized through thoughtful technology integration. It's not just about automation – it's about creating an intelligent, responsive system that benefits every stakeholder in the supply chain.

Looking Ahead

As global supply chains continue to evolve, Kristiansund Base's success story serves as a blueprint for maritime terminals worldwide. By embracing digital innovation while maintaining operational flexibility, they've created a model that delivers immediate benefits while laying the groundwork for future improvements.
